Sam Parmelee was
born January 2 at 11:58 pm after an unusually short labor for an eight-pounder. Contractions
began Friday evening at 5:00 pm, while Steve & Leah were at the swimming pool. Around
8:00 pm Melissa called them and strongly suggested they make their way home. Leah was
dropped at her grandparents' and check-in at the hospital was around 9:45 pm. The
competitive mother succeeded in beating the clock -- with two minutes to spare -- to secure
the actual birth date of his namesake great-grandfather. The name "Sam" was chosen
despite the intense lobbying of his four-year old sister for the name "Elephant". She declines to
give a reason for the name choice and agrees to allow the use of "Sam" as a nickname. |
